On the back of a depreciating rupee and higher fuel prices, SpiceJet holds its plans for long-haul international flights, which was aimed at offering offer fares at cheaper rates than those of foreign airline companies, reported Mint.
According to Ajay Singh, chairman, SpiceJet, the airline will do long-haul international destinations only when it is commercially feasible, the report said, adding that the company would wait for “a somewhat improved environment in terms of ATF (aviation turbine fuel) and taxation”.
Long-haul flights will require the procurement of wide-body planes, which will consume more fuel, as well as airport landing and parking charges, the daily said.
SpiceJet currently operates short-haul international flights to Dubai, Colombo, Bangkok and Kabul on its narrow body fleet of Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-900 ER planes, the report said.
