Two Vyapam scam whistleblowers plan to contest MP polls
Oct 17, 2018 8:44 AM

Two Vyapam scam whistleblowers are mulling contesting next month's assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.

They are currently seeking opinion of their "well-wishers" on their political plan.

Assembly elections in MP will be held on November 28.

Talking to PTI on Wednesday, Dr Anand Rai, known for exposing the Vyapam scam (a multi-crore admission and government recruitment scam), said he was considering to contest elections from Indore-5 assembly constituency.

"Many victims of this scam are yet to get justice. Many big fish involved in this multi-crore scam are still out of the net. I want to change the condition," he said.

Rai, who is seeking opinion of his well-wishers on social media, is presently posted in the government district hospital of Indore as a medical officer.

Indore-5 assembly segment is currently represented by senior BJP leader and former minister Mahendra Hardia, who had won the seat by a margin of 14,418 votes in the 2013 assembly polls, by defeating his nearest Congress rival Pankaj Sanghvi.

Another Vyapam scam whistleblower, Ashish Chaturvedi (28), said he was also consulting his well-wishers about fighting the polls from Gwalior (East) seat.

"The Vyapam scam has affected the basic infrastructure like education, employment and health of the people in MP. I have shared my point of view with the investigating agencies and the government. But influential people are still out of the purview of the investigation. I want to take this issue to the voters," he said.

Senior BJP leader and Minister for Urban Administration Maya Singh had won the last assembly polls from Gwalior (East) area by defeating Congress rival Munnilal Goyal by a margin of 1,147 votes.

The scam related to the MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) or Vyapam (Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal) was exposed in 2013. The case was linked to the illegal admission of candidates in the professional courses and state government jobs in alleged collusion of mafia, officials and political leaders.

(Reuters) -St. Louis Federal Reserve President Alberto Musalem said on Wednesday the U.S. central bank's monetary policy is in the right place given current economic data, in remarks that did not give a clear signal whether he supports an interest rate cut later this month. The current modestly restrictive setting of the policy rate is consistent with today's full-employment labor...

(Reuters) -Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller on Wednesday repeated his call for an interest-rate cut in September given the weakening in the labor market, and said that how fast the central bank cuts after that will depend on what happens next in the economy. I think we need to start cutting rates at the next meeting, and then we don't...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -High inflation remains the U.S. Federal Reserve's main risk, though evidence of a weaker labor market still likely warrants a single quarter-point rate cut this year, Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic said on Wednesday. After four years with inflation above the Fed's 2% target, price stability remains the primary concern, Bostic said. The full implications of trade policy...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -New orders for U.S.-manufactured goods fell in July, pulled down by weakness in commercial aircraft bookings, but businesses appeared to have maintained a strong pace of spending on equipment early in the third quarter. Factory orders decreased 1.3% after an unrevised 4.8% drop in June, the Commerce Department's Census Bureau said on Wednesday. Economists polled by Reuters had...
