The air quality in Delhi continues to remain ‘very poor’ on Wednesday morning, three days after Diwali. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the overall air quality index (AQI) of Delhi stood at 389 up to 7 AM on Wednesday. The overall air quality in the city on Tuesday morning also remained in the ‘very poor’ category with an overall AQI of 397.

As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) report, several places across the national capital recorded ‘severe’ air quality with the AQI rising above 400. Some of such areas include RK Puram at 417, Punjabi Bagh at 423, Jahangirpuri at 428 and Anand Vihar at 430.

As per the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the AQI in the national capital is likely to remain in the ‘very poor’ category till November 17.

Despite the ban on firecrackers, the city residents continued to burst firecrackers on Diwali, which has deteriorated the air quality in the national capital. The stubble burning in neighbouring states and vehicular emissions in the city also contributed to the worsening air quality.

Meanwhile, the CPCB’s recent data showed that the AQI in the National Capital Region (NCR) also stayed in the ‘very poor’ category. The AQI in neighbouring Gurugram stood at 386.

Separately, the satellites detected 1,776 stubble-burning incidents in the neighbouring Punjab on Tuesday while in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, 44 and 176 incidents were reported, respectively. The data has been collected by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute.
