Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday (September 29) announced a 15-point winter action plan to curb air pollution in the national capital as the festive season approaches.
Kejriwal pointed out that the number of days with severe pollution has reduced over the past eight years, thanks to various government measures, including the introduction of electric buses and the EV Policy.
Here is Kejriwal's 15-point action plan for the winter months in Delhi:
1. More than 10 million samplings to be planted and 5.2 million by the Delhi government
2. Ban on garbage burning with 611 teams to monitor implementation
3. Campaigns on "Red light on, gaadi off" to be run
4. Ban on fireworks
5. Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to be implemented
6. Identified 13 hotspots with heightened pollution: Anand Vihar, Mundka, Wazirpur, Jahangirpuri, R K Puram, Rohini, Punjabi Bagh, Okhla, Bawana, Vivek Vihar, Narela, Ashok Vihar and Dwarka
7. Deployed 82 mechanical road-sweeping machines to prevent dust
8. Establish a green war room for surveillance
9. Launched a Green Delhi app for citizens to report pollution-causing activity to the government
10. PUSA bio-decomposer to be sprayed on 5,000 hectares of farmland to prevent stubble burning
11. Government to deploy 530 water sprinklers to prevent dust pollution
12. Deployment of 385 teams to check vehicles' pollution certificates and prevent plying of overage cars
13. Alternative routes to be publicised for 90 identified high-traffic roads
14. Established war rooms and 13 special teams to fight pollution hotspots
15. 298 smog guns to ply on Delhi roads in winter
