RuPay Credit Card on UPI: Transaction limits issued to safeguard user

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has issued transaction limits for the linked RuPay credit card on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Effective immediately, the transaction limit for the RuPay credit card on UPI will be determined by the lowest of the following criteria:

RuPay credit card limit set by the issuer: The maximum transaction limit that the issuer of the RuPay credit card has set for all transactions made using this card.

Issuer's limit for 'RuPay credit card on UPI' transactions: The limit set by the issuer specifically for transactions made through the 'RuPay credit card on UPI,' aligning with their risk management framework.

Customer-set limit in accordance with RBI guidelines: The limit chosen by the customer within the parameters set forth by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

This approach aims to ensure that transactions conducted through RuPay credit cards on UPI adhere to controlled limits.

According to Sachin Castelino, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, In Solutions Global, "NPCI aligns with risk management frameworks established by card issuers, providing a structured approach to mitigate potential financial risks. Additionally, the adherence to customer-set limits, in accordance with the RBI's directive on enhancing security, reinforces the commitment to safeguarding user interests. This strategic measure facilitates secure transactions and strengthens the confidence in utilising RuPay credit cards for diverse purposes such as e-commerce, travel, healthcare, and education."

RuPay credit cards on UPI empower customers with its approach to credit card management. Users can link their credit card accounts from their issuer bank using their registered mobile number and engage in payment transactions. The process involves scanning a UPI QR code for making payments, with transaction authentication performed using a UPI PIN.

How to link RuPay credit card to UPI?

To link RuPay credit card to the UPI platform, follow these steps:

Step 1: Download the BHIM, PhonePe, Paytm, or Mobikwik app from the Google Play Store (for Android users) or the App Store (for iOS users).

Step 2: Complete the registration process as required by the chosen app.

Step 3: From the provided list, select the bank.

Step 4: Choose the specific RuPay credit card that is to be linked, considering all credit cards associated with the registered mobile number. Follow the steps to generate the UPI PIN.
