Indian shares ended lower on Tuesday dragged lower by Reliance Industries, ITC and HDFC twins along with select largecap private bank stocks like ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank. Maruti, Coal India and Sun Pharma also weighed on indexes, while support for the bulls came in from midcaps which outperformed by more than half a percent on gains in the NBFC and PSU Banks shares. Largecap stocks like Infosys, TCS, SBI, Hindustan Unilever and Tata Motors also helped in capping losses. The Sensex ended 176 points down, or by 0.52 percent, at 33,891, while the Nifty ended below the 10,200 level, at 10,198, lower by 52 points, or 0.51 percent.

Bank of Maharashtra up 20% post Q2 results##Bank of Maharashtra up 20% post Q2 results
Shares of Bank of Maharashtra rose 20 percent to a one-month high of Rs 14.01, as the bank posted a net profit of Rs 270.0 million for July-September, against a loss of Rs 232.4 million a year ago. The bank's gross net performing asset ratio improved dramatically to 18.64 percent from 21.18 percent the previous quarter. The total income for the quarter was at Rs 31.9 billion, against Rs 33 billion a year ago. The bad loan provisions for the quarter stood at Rs 9.4 billion, compared with Rs 8.4 billion a year ago. At 3.09 pm, shares of the company traded 19 percent higher at Rs 13.90.

DHFL shares surge 16%, Equitas up by 7%, LIC Housing, HDFC fall##DHFL shares surge 16%, Equitas up by 7%, LIC Housing, HDFC fall
NBFC shares gained in trade with Dewan Housing Finance ltd being the top percent gainer on the NSE. DHFL shares surged nearly 16 percent, touching an intra-day high of Rs 214.30. The stock has been rising from the last three days and has risen 12.43 percent in the period. It outperformed the sector by more than 11 percent today. Other major gainers from the non-banking finance space were Equitas which surged more than 7 percent today, Motilal Oswal up by 6.5 percent, Ujjivan by 6.3 percent, Srei Infra by 5.6 percent.
Major laggards from the NBFC space were LIC Housing Finance which fell nearly 3 percent, Bharat Fin and Cholamandalam each by 2.3 percent. HDFC also fell by 1.65 percent, while Muthoot Finance dipped 1.6 percent.

Benchmark equity indexes widened losses at the start of the last hour of trade on Tuesday dragged by sharp losses in Reliance Industries, HDFC twins and ITC along with largecap private bank stocks such as ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank. The Sensex dipped 220 points, or 0.65 percent, to 33,847.20, while the Nifty slipped below 10,200, at 10,190, down by 60 points, or 0.59 percent. Some support for the bulls came from Infosys, Hindustan Unilever and TCS along with SBI and L&T. Broader markets outperformed but were off the day's highs. The Nifty MidCap traded higher by 0.34 percent, while the BSE MidCap traded higher by nearly half a percent.

State-run lender posted a surprise quarterly profit on Monday as it set aside lower provisions for bad loans. Union Bank reports improved asset quality, a metric watched closely at Indian banks due to high levels of bad loans in the sector. Lender’s gross bad loans as a percentage of total loans stood at 15.74 percent at end-September, against 16 percent in the preceding quarter. Shares of GAIL India rose nearly 4 percent to an intra-day high of Rs 369 and was the top gainer on the Nifty 50 index. GAIL India is a structurally strong company with attractive valuations, a fundamental analyst said. Based on technical charts, the stock is expected to see an upward movement till Rs 377, while the immediate support will be at Rs 357. So far today, 4.75 million shares of the company changed hands on the NSE as against the daily average of 2.09 million. At 12.35 am, the stock was up 3.3 percent at Rs 363.80.

Shares of sugar companies gained after Indian Sugar Mills Association on Monday scaled down its forecast for the country's sugar output in 2018-19 (October-September) due to adverse weather and pest attacks in some key cane growing areas. ISMA revised its 2018-19 estimates to 31.5-32.0 million tonnes from 35.0-35.5 million tonnes projected earlier. Sugar output had hit its record high of 32.3 million tonnes in 2017-18 (April-March). Diversion of cane towards ethanol is also a key factor for the downward revision in the estimate. At 11.35 am, shares of Dhampur Sugar Mills, Magadh Sugar & Energy, Triveni Engineering and Industries, Ponni Sugars, Balrampur Chini Mills, Avadh Sugar & Energy, Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar, KCP Sugar & Industries, Uttam Sugar Mills, Dalmia Bharat, and Ugar Sugar Works were 0.3-10 percent higher. The Sensex traded below the 34,000 level, at 33,988.87, down by 78 points, or 0.23 percent, while the Nifty was trading at 10,237.40, lower by 13.45 points, or 0.13 percent at 11.32 am. Broader markets outperformed with the Nifty MidCap up by 0.76 percent, while the BSE MidCap gaining by nearly a percent.
