Dow Tumbles Over 1%; US Weekly Jobless Claims Fall

U.S. stocks traded lower this morning, with the Dow Jones falling more than 500 points on Thursday.

Following the market opening Thursday, the Dow traded down 1.18% to 46,860.18 while the NASDAQ fell 0.92% to 22,506.55. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.86% to 6,717.27.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Energy shares rose by 0.4% on Thursday.

In trading on Thursday, financial stocks dipped by 1.4%.

Top Headline

U.S. initial jobless claims declined by 1,000 from the previous week to 213,000 in the first week of March, compared to market estimates of 215,000.

Equities Trading UP

           

Tillys Inc ( TLYS ) shares shot up 58% to $2.58 after the company reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter financial results and issued first-quarter sales guidance above estimates.

Shares of Codexis Inc ( CDXS ) got a boost, surging 57% to $1.99 following the company’s fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 earnings release.

Vera Bradley, Inc. ( VRA ) shares were also up, gaining 40% to $3.54 after the company announced upbeat quarterly earnings.

Equities Trading DOWN

Decent Holding Inc ( DXST ) shares dropped 37% to $0.28. Decent Holding ( DXST ) announced a 1-for-25 reverse share split effective March 16.

Shares of Incannex Healthcare Inc ( IXHL ) were down 33% to $4.02 after the company announced it company announced the commencement of a $10 million offering of 2 million shares at $5.00 per share.

LQR House Inc ( YHC ) was down, falling 21% to $0.68.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 8.1% to $94.28 while gold traded down 0.1% at $5,178.20.

Silver traded up 1.8% to $87.080 on Thursday, while copper fell 0.3% to $5.8760.

Euro zone

European shares were lower today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 fell 0.7%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index fell 1.6%. London's FTSE 100 fell 0.7%, Germany's DAX fell 0.7% and France's CAC 40 slipped 0.8% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed lower on Thursday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 falling 1.04%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index falling 0.70%, China's Shanghai Composite slipping 0.10% and India's BSE Sensex dipping 1.08%.

Economics

U.S. initial jobless claims declined by 1,000 from the previous week to 213,000 in the first week of March, compared to market estimates of 215,000.

The U.S. trade deficit shrank to $54.5 billion in January following a revised $72.9 billion gap in December.

The US goods trade deficit shrank to $80.8 billion in January from $98.5 billion in the prior month.

U.S. housing starts increased 7.2% month-over-month to an annual rate of 1.487 million in January.

U.S. building permits declined 5.4% month-over-month to an annualized rate of 1.376 million in January.
