The Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500, and the Nasdaq Composite were down 0.1% each. Among sectors, materials led the gainers, while energy saw the steepest decline.
United Parcel Service ( UPS ) , Paccar ( PCAR ) , General Motors ( GM ) and Spotify Technology ( SPOT ) were among the major companies to report their latest quarterly financial results.
Google ( GOOG ) parent Alphabet and electric vehicle maker Tesla are scheduled to report after the closing bell, along with other names such as credit card giant Visa (V).
The US two-year yield fell 3.4 basis points to 4.49%, while the 10-year rate lost 1.3 basis points to 4.25%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil dropped 1.4% to $77.34 per barrel.
