Exchange-Traded Funds Decline, US Equities Mixed After Midday Friday

01:10 PM EDT, 06/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV declined. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.3%.

US equity indexes traded mixed after midday Friday as investors weighed attempts to give diplomacy another chance in the Middle East alongside the Federal Reserve's monetary policy projections.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each rose about 0.6%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) dipped 0.3%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) lost 0.5%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) eased 0.6%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) moved 0.6% higher. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) edged up 1.7%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), dropped 1.6%.

Commodities

Crude oil lost 0.2%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) was up 0.4%. Natural gas dropped 3%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 3.2% lower.

Gold shed 0.6% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.1%. Silver was 2.7% down, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) eased 1.6%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.9%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also edged higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up 0.1%; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was 0.3% higher, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 0.8%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 0.3%. iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) pointed lower as well. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) dipped 0.2%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was 0.2% up. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were mixed, with the latter falling fractionally.
