Exchange-Traded Funds Mixed, US Equities Higher After Midday Trading

01:14 PM EST, 11/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were mixed, with the latter being higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 0.7%.

US equity indexes hit new intraday record highs ahead of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy announcement and Chairman Jerome Powell's press briefing in which investors will look for clues about the future path of interest rates.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) fell 0.3% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) shed 0.4%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 1.4%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) both climbed.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 1.4% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was up 2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) dipped 1.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 4%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) climbed 3.6%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 1.2%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 1.1%. Natural gas dipped 2.1%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) lost 2.3%.

Gold rose 1.1% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 1.3%. Silver was up 1.9%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) rose 1.8%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.7%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) both rose.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged 1.3% higher; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) rose 1.7% while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) gained 0.9%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.6%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) both were trending higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 1.1%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) fell 0.4%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
