Exchange-Traded Funds Mixed, US Equities Lower After GDP, Jobless Claims Data

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were mixed, with the latter trading lower. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.6%.

US benchmark stock indexes fell after midday Thursday following the second estimate for Q1 economic growth alongside weekly jobless claims data.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.1% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) gained 0.1%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 1.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) rose 0.8% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 0.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was up 1.4% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was down 1.4%.

Commodities

Crude was down 1.4%; United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 1.3%. Natural gas was down 2.1% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) declined 1.9%.

Gold was 0.1% higher based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 0.3%. Silver was down 2.7% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) slid 2%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) gained 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 0.4%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.2% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 0.4%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) gained 0.6% while other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were higher.

The BSE Sensex dropped over 191 points, to trade at 37,330, down by 0.51 percent at 11.46 am, while the Nifty has shed 0.50 percent, losing 57 points, to 11,289.40.
