Exchange-Traded Funds Rise, US Equities Mixed After Midday

01:13 PM EDT, 07/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.7%.

US equity indexes and government bond yields traded mixed after midday on Wednesday as investors weighed the labor market data.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each added about 0.8%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.9%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also advanced.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 2.3%, while iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) gained 2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was 0.3% lower. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 1%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), added 0.9%.

Commodities

Crude oil gained 2%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) was up 1.7%. Natural gas climbed 2.5%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) gained 2.7%.

Gold rose 0.3% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) advanced 0.3%. Silver added 0.8%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 1.3% higher.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose fractionally; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) was fractionally lower, and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) fell 0.1%.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up 0.7%; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were mixed, with the latter rising 0.3%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) dipped 0.8%. iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) fell as well. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 1.3%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was down 0.2%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
