US equity indexes rose in midday trading on Wednesday as strong quarterly results from banking behemoths boosted investors' risk sentiment.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) shed 0.2% and 0.4% respectively.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was 0.6% higher; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) advanced as well.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 1.7%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) gained 2.2%.
Financial
The Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) lost 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) down 0.7%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), was up 0.9%.
Commodities
Crude oil was down 0.5%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 0.2%. Natural gas fell 1.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) slipped 1.5%.
Gold on Comex climbed 1.2%, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 1.4%. Silver was up 1.8%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) gained 1.7%.

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) added 0.2%. The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) rose 0.4%, while iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) dipped 0.3%.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) shed 0.1%. VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was up 1.2%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 0.4%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) slipped 0.3%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) edged lower, and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) moved higher; iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 1%.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) dropped 0.8%. Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.
Cryptocurrency
In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) fell 1.3%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF ( BITO ) was down 1.9%, ProShares Ether ETF ( EETH ) fell 2.8%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF ( BETH ) lost 1.8%.
