Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Lower After Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index Declines

01:01 PM EDT, 06/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were trading lower. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.2%.

US benchmark stock indexes slipped following muted gains in technology and after a closely monitored consumer sentiment index surprisingly declined.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) fell 0.9% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) slid 0.7%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up fractionally; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) declined 1.9% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 0.7%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) contracted 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was down 0.7% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was up 0.7%.

Commodities

Crude was down 0.5%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 0.8%. Natural gas was down 1.6% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) declined 0.5%.

Gold was down 1.2% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 1.2%. Silver was up 1.2% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was up 1.5%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) contracted 0.9%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.1% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.9%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dropped 1.3% while other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were lower.
