Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Lower After Midday

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.3%.

US equity indexes fell in midday trading Friday after the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation measure matched market expectations.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.1%, and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was up 0.1%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 0.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 0.8%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) rose 0.3%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) rose 0.3%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) lost 0.4%.

Commodities

Crude oil lost 0.5%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) eased 0.2%. Natural gas dipped 1.7%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) slid 1.7%.

Gold was down 1.3% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) declined 0.9%. Silver fell 1.5%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) slipped 0.6%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was down 0.3%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) added 0.2%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was off 0.4%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.3%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were in the red. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 0.1% lower.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was 0.2% lower, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) was lower, while iShares US Industrials (IYJ) was higher.
