Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed After Midday

01:07 PM EDT, 05/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were mixed, with the latter edging higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.5%.

US equity indexes traded mixed, with big tech pushing the Nasdaq Composite higher in midday trading Wednesday.

Energy

IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) fell 0.4% and 0.5%, respectively.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was 1.1% higher, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) climbed 0.5%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) declined 0.9%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 0.9%.

Commodities

Crude oil was down 0.3%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) slid 0.4%. Natural gas lost 3.5%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was down 3.5%.

Gold declined 1.9% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) slipped 2%. Silver retreated 2.1%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was down 2.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 0.6%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also declined.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was 0.8% higher; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was up 0.2%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 0.5%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) slipped 1.7%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were also lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 2%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI) was down 0.5%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were also lower.
