Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed After Midday

01:04 PM EDT, 09/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM declined, and IVV rose. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.6%.

US equity indexes were mixed as communication services helped the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite outperform in midday trading on Wednesday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) fell 1.8% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) lost 2%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.3%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) shed 0.9%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was down 1.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) dropped 0.7%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) declined 2.2%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), climbed 2.3%.

Commodities

Crude oil fell 2.1%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) dropped 2.3%. Natural gas rose 1.3%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was up 1.4%.

Gold on Comex rose 1.1%, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 0.9%. Silver gained 0.9%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 0.9% up.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) slipped 0.5%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also edged down.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 0.7%, VanEck Retail ETF (RTH), and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) gained as well.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) lost 0.8%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) moved lower. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) eased 0.3%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was down 0.9%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.

Cryptocurrency

In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) added 0.9%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF ( BITO ) was up 0.9%, ProShares Ether ETF ( EETH ) gained 4.5%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF ( BETH ) gained 2.1%.
