Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed After Midday Trading

12:58 PM EDT, 09/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were mixed Wednesday, with the latter trading lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) gained 0.2%.

US equity indexes were mixed in choppy trading as government bond yields fell following a surprise decline in job openings.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) fell 0.6% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) shed 0.7%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.4%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) climbed 1.1%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 1.1% higher

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was narrowly higher. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 0.2% while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dipped 0.1%.

Commodities

Crude fell 0.9%; United States Oil Fund (USO) also lost 0.9%. Natural gas fell 2.4%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) slumped 3.2%.

Gold was up 0.2% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) also gained 0.2%. Silver was 0.7% higher, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) also advanced 0.7%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 0.5%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) edged down 0.4%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) edged up 0.1%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was 0.1% higher. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were softer.
