Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday

01:13 PM EDT, 10/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 0.1%.

US equity indexes rose as quarterly earnings from banking giants aided risk sentiment while mixed producer price inflation data sent government bond yields lower.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) added 0.7% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up less than 0.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 2%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) rose 0.9%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 1.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 5.2%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) lost 5.2%.

Commodities

Crude oil was down 0.8%; United States Oil Fund (USO) dipped 0.6%. Natural gas fell 1.4%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) dropped 1.9%.

Gold was up 1.4% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 1.2%. Silver was 1.8% higher, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) gained 1.6%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) advanced 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) dropped 0.3%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) rose.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was up 0.4%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.8%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was up 1.3%, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) traded higher.
