Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV rose Thursday afternoon. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.8%.
US equity indexes rose after midday, with gains in technology helping push the Nasdaq Composite to a new all-time high, after June retail sales beat forecasts.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each added about 0.1%.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) gained 0.9%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also higher.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 1.4%, while iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 0.5% higher.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was 0.4% up. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) added 1.1%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dipped 1.2%.
Commodities
Crude oil rose 1.4%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) was up 1.1%. Natural gas declined 0.5%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) lost 0.8%.
Gold slipped 0.5% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) were 0.3% down. Silver was up 0.3%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 0.3%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also higher.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) added 0.2%, and VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) also gained.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) shed 1.3%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were also lower. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.1%.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was up 0.4%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also gained.
Cryptocurrency
In midday activity, Bitcoin was down 0.7%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF ( BITO ) fell 0.6%, ProShares Ether ETF ( EETH ) added 0.3%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF ( BETH ) eased 0.1%.
