Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Slip After Midday Trading

01:02 PM EDT, 10/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.4% lower.

US equity indexes fell in midday trading Tuesday as a continued march up in government bond yields undermined investors' risk sentiment.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both rose past 0.6%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 0.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) shed 0.5%, while iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was 0.5% lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) lost 1%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 0.9%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was 0.2% lower. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 0.3%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) climbed 0.5%.

Commodities

Crude oil rose 2.7%; United States Oil Fund (USO) gained nearly 3%. Natural gas edged up 0.8% higher, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) added 2.3%.

Gold climbed 0.6% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.9%. Silver gained 2.6%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) advanced 2.9%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) rose.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged 0.5% lower; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) shed 0.5%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) lost 1.3%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) dipped 0.4%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.5%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dropped 1.1%, while Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
