Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Decline Monday Afternoon

01:48 PM EDT, 05/11/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks fell Monday afternoon with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) declining 1.2% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) dropping 0.7%.

In corporate news, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Monday he has sued Netflix ( NFLX ) for allegedly spying on Texans by collecting users' data without their consent or knowledge. Netflix ( NFLX ) shares fell 2.4%.

Walt Disney's ( DIS ) ABC network has been the victim of "sustained, coordinated" censorship by the Trump administration, Federal Communications Commissioner Anna Gomez said in a letter to Disney ( DIS ) CEO Josh D'Amaro, The Wall Street Journal reported. Disney ( DIS ) shares were down 3%.

Fox (FOX, FOXA) reported a surprise increase in quarterly earnings on Monday, while the media company's revenue topped estimates amid distribution growth. Its Class A shares rose 4%, and the Class B shares climbed 4.4%.
