Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Gain in Afternoon Trading

02:10 PM EDT, 04/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were rising Wednesday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) climbing 4% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) jumping 9%.

Walmart ( WMT ) shares spiked 10% after it reiterated its sales and operating income growth outlooks for fiscal 2026.
