03:20 PM EDT, 06/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were declining late Tuesday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index decreasing 0.6% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) down 0.3%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index was shedding 0.2%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index was 0.8% lower.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.2% to $77.87 a barrel, while global benchmark Brent crude advanced 0.3% to $81.87 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures jumped 8.1% to $3.14 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Trio Petroleum ( TPET ) shares surged more than 48% after it said Tuesday it "encountered substantial oil-bearing pay zones" in the first two exploratory wells it drilled in Uintah County, Utah.
