03:25 PM EDT, 09/23/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks gained late Monday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) both up 0.8%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index rose 0.8%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index added 0.6%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil declined 0.9% to $70.37 a barrel, while global benchmark Brent shed 0.8% to $73.91 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures jumped 7.8% to $2.62 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Shell (SHEL) is no longer building a low-carbon hydrogen plant on Norway's west coast due to a lack of demand, Reuters reported. Shell shares added 0.5%.
