Sector Update: Energy Stocks Softer in Late Afternoon Trading

03:21 PM EST, 11/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were lower late Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index decreasing 0.6% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) down 0.2%.

The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index dropped 2%, while the Dow Jones US Utilities index was rising 1%.

Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil eased 0.1% to $68.85 a barrel while the global benchmark Brent crude contract was down 0.2% to $72.89 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures rose 1.8% to $3.43 per 1 million BTU.

In corporate news, TotalEnergies (TTE) has paused work on a wind farm off the coast of New York following Donald Trump's presidential election victory, Reuters reported, citing a statement from Chief Executive Patrick Pouyanne. TotalEnergies shares were falling 1.4%.

Maxeon Solar Technologies ( MAXN ) shares tumbled 8.3%. The company said Tuesday it plans to restructure its business to focus exclusively on the US market, while its operations in other regions will be sold to TCL Technology.

Spire (SR) said Tuesday it has submitted a rate case with the Missouri Public Service Commission to recover infrastructure and technology upgrade investments. Its shares were down 1.1%.

NRG Energy ( NRG ) shares jumped past 8% after Jefferies upgraded the company to buy from hold and raised its price target to $113 from $93.
