Sector Update: Health Care Stocks Advance Monday Afternoon

01:49 PM EDT, 06/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Health care stocks rose Monday afternoon with the NYSE Health Care Index climbing 0.2% and the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) adding 0.3%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) eased 0.1%.

In corporate news, Moderna ( MRNA ) said that late-stage trial data showed its experimental flu vaccine was more effective than currently available shots. The mRNA-1010 product demonstrated efficacy of 26.6% in adults aged 50 years and older, higher than a licensed influenza vaccine, the company said. Moderna ( MRNA ) shares gained 1.8%.

AbbVie ( ABBV ) shares rose 1.1% after it said Monday it agreed to buy clinical-stage biotech company Capstan Therapeutics. AbbVie ( ABBV ) said it will pay up to $2.1 billion in cash at closing.

Artelo Biosciences ( ARTL ) shares surged 106% after it said Monday its first-in-human study of its non-opioid analgesic ART26.12 affirmed the "promising" safety and pharmacokinetic profile observed in preclinical trials.

Spectral AI (MDAI) shares gained 17%. The company said Monday it submitted its De Novo 510k marketing clearance application to the US Food and Drug Administration for the DeepView System's use in burn care settings, including emergency departments.
