Sector Update: Health Care Stocks Climb Late Afternoon

03:56 PM EDT, 08/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Health care stocks rose late Wednesday afternoon, with the NYSE Health Care Index and the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) each adding 1.5%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 2.4%.

In corporate news, Generation Bio ( GBIO ) shares surged 63% in recent trading, a day after the company said it plans to cut the majority of its workforce and explore strategic alternatives.

ReShape Lifesciences' ( RSLS ) merger with Vyome Therapeutics received Nasdaq approval for listing upon completion of the deal, expected to take effect at the market open on Friday under the HIND ticker, Vyome said Wednesday. ReShape shares rallied 56%.

Scilex ( SCLX ) shares jumped over 22% after it said a registration statement related to the planned merger of its Semnur Pharmaceuticals subsidiary and special purpose acquisition company Denali Capital Acquisition was declared effective by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Caris Life Sciences ( CAI ) said Wednesday that data comparing two antibody-drug conjugates, trastuzumab deruxtecan and sacituzumab govitecan, show the need for optimal sequencing in selecting treatment options for HER2-negative breast cancer. Caris shares rose 5.1%.
