Sector Update: Health Care Stocks Fall Late Afternoon

03:51 PM EDT, 03/17/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Health care stocks declined late Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Health Care Index decreasing 0.7% and the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) shedding 0.9%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 0.1%.

In corporate news, Aldeyra Therapeutics ( ALDX ) shares tumbled 69% after the company said it has received a complete response letter from the US Food and Drug Administration for its reproxalap new drug application to treat dry eye disease.

Lensar ( LNSR ) shares dropped 33% after the company said it has reached an agreement with Alcon ( ALC ) to terminate their planned merger. Alcon ( ALC ) was up 0.1%.

Rhythm Pharmaceuticals ( RYTM ) shares were falling 3.4% after it said Monday that four sub-studies from its Emanate trial did not meet primary endpoints.

Pfizer ( PFE ) shares rose 3.3% after the company reported "positive" topline mid-stage trial results of atirmociclib in second-line metastatic breast cancer.
