The Philadelphia Semiconductor index shed 3.1%.

In corporate news, Dell Technologies ( DELL ) late Thursday reported stronger-than-expected fiscal Q1 revenue, while the computer maker's earnings fell short of Wall Street's estimates. Dell shares were falling 3.2%.
