The Philadelphia Semiconductor index increased 0.6%.
In corporate news, Infosys ( INFY ) approved a share buyback of up to 180 billion rupees ($2.04 billion), according to media reports. The stock rose 0.2%.
Micron Technology ( MU ) shares jumped 7.6% after Citigroup raised its target on the stock to $175 from $150 and maintained its buy rating.
The US Federal Trade Commission is issuing orders to Alphabet (GOOG), Meta Platforms ( META ) , Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI and other AI chatbot operators, seeking to know what steps the companies have taken to evaluate the safety of their technology for children and teens. Alphabet shares rose 0.9%, Meta eased 0.1%, and Microsoft ( MSFT ) gained 0.2%.
Opendoor Technologies ( OPEN ) shares surged 77% after the company named Kaz Nejatian as chief executive officer and announced two co-founders, newly appointed to the board, invested $40 million through a private placement.
