Sector Update: Tech Stocks Fall Late Afternoon

03:47 PM EDT, 07/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tech stocks declined late Friday afternoon with the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) dropping 0.4% and the SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) shedding 1%.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index eased 0.1%.

In corporate news, MicroCloud Hologram ( HOLO ) shares rose 12% after the company said that it bought up to $200 million in bitcoin and cryptocurrency-related securities derivatives.

Meta Platforms ( META ) is almost certain to be hit by new antitrust charges in the EU as the Facebook owner is unlikely to tweak its pay-or-consent model, Reuters reported. Meta shares fell 1.2%.

Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) will give a significant discount on cloud computing services for the US government, the Financial Times reported, citing a senior official at the General Services Administration, which is renegotiating the contracts. Alphabet shares rose 1.6%.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) shareholders submitted a resolution asking the board to file a public report on how the company prevents its products from being used in ways that violate international humanitarian law, Bloomberg reported. Microsoft ( MSFT ) shares gained 0.5%.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang met with US President Donald Trump on Thursday, days ahead of Huang's planned trip to China, Bloomberg reported. Separately, Huang sold 225,000 Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares this week in three installments for a total of $36.4 million, according to regulatory filings. Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares rose 0.5%.
