The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index was marginally down.
In corporate news, Intel ( INTC ) shares slumped 9.3%, a day after the company said it swung to a loss in Q2 and outlined a plan to cut its workforce by 15% by the end of this year.
PagerDuty ( PD ) shares jumped past 11% after Reuters reported the company is working with Qatalyst Partners to assess options, including a potential sale, after drawing takeover interest.
Meta (META) said it will stop allowing political, electoral, and social issue ads on its platforms in the EU starting early October in response to the bloc's new rules on transparency and targeting of political ads. Meta shares rose 0.5%.
Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) has signed a deal worth $1.2 billion to provide cloud-computing services to ServiceNow ( NOW ) over five years, Bloomberg reported Thursday. Alphabet shares added 0.5% and ServiceNow ( NOW ) was shedding 2.6%.
