Indian equity indexes surged higher at opening on Monday, extending Friday's gains, on broad-based buying in all sectors, particularly banks, pharma, metal and IT.

The BSE Sensex opened at 37,714, soon hitting an all-time high of 37,804, while the NSE Nifty opened at 11,401 and hit 11,427, rising by over half a percent.
Among stocks, SBI, ICICI Bank, Vedanta, Tata Steel, Yes Bank, UPL were the top gainers, while Hindustan Unilever, Kotak Mahindra Bank declined.
All sectoral indices surged on the NSE, with PSU Bank gaining 2.04 percent and the Nifty Bank going up by 0.86 percent. Nifty MidCap surged 0.67 percent.
On the BSE, midcap surged 0.57 percent, smallcap was up by 0.81 percent and largecap was trading higher by 0.72 percent.
The Indian rupee opened at 68.57 against the US dollar on Monday.
Asian equity markets tracked gains from the Friday's close on Wall Street despite US-China trade war concerns.
