Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty end lower dragged by banks, energy stocks
Indian indices pared opening gains to end lower on Thursday dragged by financial, metal and energy stocks. However, pharma and IT positive for the day. The Sensex ended 335 points lower at 37,736 while the Nifty lost 101 points to settle at 11,102. BPCL, IndusInd Bank, IOC, Axis Bank and HDFC were the top draggers on the Nifty50 index while Dr Reddy's, Sun Pharma, Wipro, Vedanta, and Maruti were the top gainers. Among sectors, Nifty Bank and Nifty Energy lost 2 percent while Nifty Metal declined 1 percent for the day. Nifty FMCG also lost 0.8 percent. Meanwhile, Nifty Pharma rose over 3 percent and Nity IT added 0.5 percent.

IEX clocks 15% growth in electricity sales volumes in June quarter
The sale of power volume grew 14.5 percent to 14,878 million units at the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) in June quarter as compared to 12,990 million units in the same period last year, the official data showed. According to the data released by the IEX on Thursday, the average spot power price at the exchange was down 26 percent year- on-year and yielded significant savings for distribution utilities and Industries.More here

HDFC Q1 net profit falls 4.7% to Rs 3,051 crore; NII rises 8.4% to Rs 3,392 crore
The country's largest mortgage lender Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) reported a standalone net profit of Rs 3,051.5 crore in the first quarter of fiscal 2021 as against Rs 3,203.1 crore in the year-ago quarter, registering a fall of 4.71 percent. However, net profit was better than CNBC-TV18 analysts' poll estimates of Rs 2698.8 crore. Net interest income (NII) rose 8.4 percent to Rs 3,392 crore from Rs 3,129.8 crore. NII was in-line with the street expectations while net interest margin during the quarter fell by 20 bps to 3.1 percent from 3.3 percent, compared annually again.

Piramal Enterprises Q1 | The company’s consolidated net profit in Q1FY21 rose 10.6 percent to Rs 495.6 crore from Rs 448.2 crore while revenue fell 8.7 percent to Rs 2,937 crore, YoY. Tax expense was at Rs 161 crore versus Rs 216 crore, YoY.

Buzzing | Manappuram Finance shares decline 9% post Q1 earnings
Shares of Manappuram Finance fell over 9 percent to Rs 165.35 on Thursday after the company's non-gold business reported weak numbers with MFI business reporting net loss in Q1. The net profit also declined for the second consecutive quarter on a sequential basis.
Compared to the same period the previous year, the company posted a nearly 38 percent jump in its consolidated net profit at Rs 367.97 crore in Q1. It had registered a net profit of Rs 266.78 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Non-gold AUM of the NBFC was up 10.4 percent YoY but down 7.9 percent QoQ. Also, the NIM was at an all-time low of 14.9 percent due to weak collections. On the asset quality front, gross NPAs (non-performing assets) stood at 1.25 percent and net NPAs at 0.70 percent at the end of June 2020. Read more here.

Gateway Distriparks Q1 | The company’s net profit in Q1FY21 declined 81.2 percent to Rs 11.1 crore from Rs 59 crore while revenue fell 31.5 percent to Rs 252.8 crore from Rs 368.9 crore, YoY. EBITDA decreased by 40.3 percent to Rs 69.9 crore from Rs 117 crore and EBITDA margin contracted by 410 bps to 27.6 percent, YoY.
