Abbott Laboratories ( ABT ) said Thursday it entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Exact Sciences ( EXAS ) for a total equity value of about $21 billion, or $105 per common share.

Shares of Exact Sciences ( EXAS ) jumped 17%, with intraday trading volume at over 53.2 million compared with a daily average of about 2.9 million.
