12:10 PM EDT, 07/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The three major US stock indexes were mixed around midday Thursday as traders digested economic data and earnings results from big companies.
US economic growth, measured by gross domestic product, rose by 2.8% in Q2 after a 1.4% increase in Q1.
US initial jobless claims fell to a level of 235,000 in the week ended July 20 from an upwardly revised 245,000 level in the previous week.
In company news, Ford Motor ( F ) shares retreated 16% in recent Thursday trading after it reported late Wednesday that its Q2 adjusted diluted earnings fell to $0.47 per share from $0.72 a year earlier.
TotalEnergies (TTE) reported Q2 adjusted earnings Thursday of $1.98 per diluted share, down from $1.99 a year earlier. Revenue was $49.18 billion, down from $51.46 billion a year earlier. Shares of the company were up 0.6% in recent trading.
AbbVie ( ABBV ) shares were up 4.2% in recent Thursday trading after the company said that its Q2 net revenue rose to $14.46 billion from $13.87 billion a year earlier and that it raised its full year 2024 adjusted diluted EPS outlook to a range of $10.71 to $10.91.
AstraZeneca ( AZN ) reported Q2 earnings Thursday of $1.24 per diluted share, up from $1.17 a year earlier. Revenue was $12.94 billion, up from $11.42 billion a year earlier. Shares of AstraZeneca ( AZN ) slid 2.8% in recent trading.
Sanofi ( SNY ) shares were up 3.9% in recent Thursday trading after the company said that its Q2 net sales increased to 10.75 billion euros ($11.67 billion) from 9.97 billion euros a year earlier.
Shares of technology companies IBM ( IBM ) advanced 5.8% and ServiceNow ( NOW ) jumped 14% in recent Thursday trading after they reported higher Q2 results late Wednesday.
Unilever ( UL ) shares rose 6.3% in recent Thursday trading after it reported Q2 underlying sales growth of 3.9%, with volume growth increasing to 2.9%.
Honeywell International ( HON ) reported Q2 adjusted earnings Thursday of $2.49 per diluted share, up from $2.30 a year earlier. Sales were $9.58 billion, up from $9.15 billion a year earlier. Shares of Honeywell International ( HON ) slipped 4.3% in recent trading.
