Treasury Yields Jump as Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Fall

01:08 PM EDT, 04/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were trading lower. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 0.1%, erasing earlier losses.

US equity indexes fell, led by industrials and communication services, while government bond yields jumped after midday on Wednesday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both dropped 0.4%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.2%, while iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) climbed 0.1% and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) eased 0.2%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) increased 1.4% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) gained 0.7%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) dropped 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) fell 1.2% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was up 0.9%.

Commodities

Crude was down 0.7%; United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 0.6%. Natural gas was down 5.7% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) declined 5.3%.

Gold was down 0.2% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) dropped 0.1%. Silver was down 0.3% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell 0.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) gained 0.5%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.5%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.4%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dropped 1% while iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ) and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were lower.
