CANADA STOCKS-TSX opens higher as energy, materials gain on rising commodity prices

Oct 23 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened

higher on Thursday, propelled by gains in the energy and

material sectors as surging oil and metals prices provided a

tailwind for the resource-heavy Canadian equities market.

At 9:30 a.m. ET (1330 GMT), Toronto's S&P/TSX composite

index was up 0.4% at 300097.49 points.
