European Equities Traded in the US as American Depositary Receipts Rise in Friday Trading, Set to Close Week Lower

11:11 AM EDT, 05/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts were trending modestly higher Friday morning, rising 0.42% to 1,371.48 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index. Despite the gain, the index is likely to close out the week approximately 0.7% lower.

From continental Europe, the gainers were led by internet browser company Opera (OPRA) and biopharmaceutical company Grifols ( GRFS ) , which rose 2.9% and 3% respectively. They were followed by biotech firm Evaxion Biotech ( EVAX ) and telecommunications company Ericsson (ERIC), which were up 2.3% and 1.6% respectively.

The decliners from continental Europe were led by pharmaceutical company Ascendis Pharma ( ASND ) and kidney dialysis company Fresenius Medical Care ( FMS ) , which fell 2.5% and 2.6% respectively. They were followed by medical device maker EDAP TMS ( EDAP ) and biopharmaceutical company argenx (ARGX), which lost 2.3% and 2.2% respectively.

From the UK and Ireland, the gainers were led by biopharmaceutical companies Akari Therapeutics ( AKTX ) and Mereo BioPharma Group ( MREO ) , which rose 4.8% and 3.6% respectively. They were followed by biotech firms Autolus Therapeutics ( AUTL ) and Trinity Biotech ( TRIB ) , which increased 2.9% and 3% respectively.

The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by hospitality company InterContinental Hotels Group ( IHG ) and biopharmaceutical company Biodexa Pharmaceuticals ( BDRX ) , which lost 2.4% and 1.6% respectively. They were followed by biopharmaceutical company Verona Pharma ( VRNA ) and oil and gas company BP (BP), which were down 1% and 0.9% respectively.
