05:57 AM EDT, 08/25/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US equity investors will focus on the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge and Nvidia's ( NVDA ) quarterly earnings this week, while keeping an eye on Ukraine-Russia peace efforts and trade tariffs.
* Looking at company earnings, about 15 S&P 500 firms are scheduled to report results this week, including the index's largest constituent, Nvidia ( NVDA ) . Earnings due this week include CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) , Snowflake (SNOW), and Dell Technologies ( DELL ) .
* Turning to macroeconomic data, the highlight this week is the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation measure, the personal consumption expenditures, or PCE, price index. Following Fed Chair Jerome Powell's dovish pivot on Friday, the odds of a 25-basis-point reduction in interest rates in September stood at 87% as of Monday morning, up from 62% the previous month, according to the CME FedWatch tool.
* In connection with this, if the core PCE, which excludes the more volatile food and energy prices, reading is strong then the Fed could require another weak nonfarm payrolls reading for August - due early September -- to justify cutting interest rates, Pepperstone head of research Chris Weston was cited as saying in a Dow Jones news report published by Morningstar.
* Other potentially market-moving data include the second estimate of gross domestic product for Q2 and durable goods orders for July.
* HSBC economists forecast that Q2 quarter-on-quarter annualized GDP growth will be revised up to 3.2% from the initial estimate of 3%. However, they expect consumer sentiment will "remain subdued" in August, while durable goods orders show a contraction in July, the economists were cited as saying in the Dow Jones news report.
* Effective this week, the US will reportedly impose 50% tariffs on Indian goods, including a 25% penalty linked to India's Russian oil imports.
* The De Minimis exemption will reportedly come to an end on Aug. 29, meaning all shipments to the US will be subject to duties, impacting e-commerce in particular.
