In the 2016 Assembly elections, Bardhaman Dakshin was won by Rabiranjan Chattopadhyay of CPIM.

Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Rabiranjan Chattopadhyay of TMC.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Rabiranjan Chattopadhyay garnered 91882 votes, securing over 47.34 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 29438 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 15.17 percent.

The constituency polled 194558 votes in the 2016 West Bengal assembly polls with a voter turnout of 80.68 percent.

The Bardhaman Dakshin constituency has a literacy level of 77.15 percent.

A total of 7 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
