In the 2016 Assembly elections, Cuddalore was won by MC Sampath of AIADMK.

Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Sampath.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Sampath garnered 70922 votes, securing over 41.07 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 24413 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 14.14 percent.

The constituency polled 172958 votes in the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly polls with a voter turnout of 74.81 percent.

The Cuddalore constituency has a literacy level of 79.04 percent.

A total of 15 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
