Mumbai will go to the polls on April 29 and the key battle will be for the South Mumbai seat, where two-time Congress MP Milind Deora will be taking on incumbent Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant.
CNBC-TV18's Priya Sheth caught up with Shiv Sena's sitting MP Arvind Sawant on his campaign trail.
Sawant said as far as the constituency is concerned, "I have raised the issues of the common man. I was the voice of the class and mass in the parliament."
On the foot over & railway bridge front, Sawant said, “The Elphinstone bridge did not collapse. The development around Elphinstone and Lower Parel, these were neither commercial nor service sector areas. It’s a lower-middle-class residential area. Most of the textile mill workers were staying here. Now they have gone, the commercial textile mills have closed down. In these closed textile mills a number of commercial institutions have come and some residential complexes.”
“The railway over bridge (ROB) over Elphinstone and Currey Road still remains the same and the transit of people on both these stations is huge in number. Therefore, I still feel a number of new bridges are required,” he added.
Talking about the Mumbai Port Trust, Sawant said, “The Public Premises Act is imposed on them and second is Ready Reckoner, both these are serious issues and I am going to take up these issues.”
