Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Sunday said that she had come to Manipur to assist people and would appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani to visit to the state to look into people's suffering. Maliwal, who came Sunday afternoon to the ethnic strifetorn state, also said she reached here not to indulge in politics and would go back if those who should be here visited the state. I have not come here to do politics, but to assist people I would appeal to the PM and Union Minister for WCD to come and visit the state, the feisty DCW chief told reporters at Imphal airport.

Gender activists from across the North East, including Manipur, have called for action against the perpetrators of sexual assault and parading of two women naked as seen in a video, but said parties should not politicise the issue. The incident that came to light via the viral video is ''shocking, unfortunate and a gross violation of human rights'', Manipur gender activist and secretary of Women Action for Development (WAD) Sobita Mangsatabam told PTI.
The video, shot in Kangpokpit district in ethnic strife affected Manipur on May 4 but surfaced on July 19, attracted condemnation across the country.

Manipur violence LIVE updates: 'Not here to do politics': DCW chief Swati Maliwal
A day after the state government asked her to postpone her visit to Manipur, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal on Sunday landed in Imphal to interact with survivors of sexual assault while appealing the government to allow her to do that.
"I will directly go to the CM's Office. I want to meet chief minister, N Biren Singh. I want to meet the sexual abuse survivors and see if they have got legal aid, counselling or any compensation," Maliwal said while speaking to ANI after landing at Imphal airport.

Manipur violence LIVE updates: Assam Rifles files sedition case against Manipur civil society group
We have registered an FIR against COCOMI against Jitendra Ningomba, convener of COCOMI, at Churachandpur police station, under Section 124 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), pertaining to sedition; Section 153 A IPC, promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, a police officer confirmed. Sources alleged that many women protestors were assaulted by the Army in Moirang of Bishnupur on June 30.
The army, however, has denied the allegation.

Assam Rifles files sedition case against Manipur civil society group
The Assam Rifles has registered a sedition and defamation case against the chief of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), an influential civil society group in Manipur's capital.
