Dhananjay Munde of the Nationalist Congress Party defeated cousin Pankaja Munde of the Bharatiya Janata Party by 30,524 votes in the Parli assembly seat of Maharashtra.
The Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections were the first since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's crushing win in the general elections in May.
While Dhananjay Munde has secured 1,21,555 votes, Pankaja has secured 91,031, according to information available on the Election Commission website as of 3:03 PM.
Voting for the assembly elections was held on Monday.
Munde, daughter of BJP veteran late Gopinath Munde, was locked in a fierce battle with cousin Dhananjay Munde, who had lost to her in 2014 assembly elections.
Pankaja even accused Dhananjay of making obscene comments against her at a campaign rally, resulting in an FIR against the latter.
The Congress appeared jaded during the campaigning for the elections. Except for former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, few leaders took part in rallies. The BJP, in contrast, approached the elections with what has become its trademark vigour.
