05:30 AM EDT, 07/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) purportedly capitulated to demands by Epic Games to allow it to sell directly to European iPhone users, Epic Games said Friday.
The news came after Epic Games publicly accused Apple ( AAPL ) of violating European Union antitrust rules by refusing to accept its design proposals for alternatives to the App Store.
"Apple ( AAPL ) has informed us that our previously rejected Epic Games Store notarization submission has now been accepted," Epic said Friday on the X social media platform.
Apple ( AAPL ) was ordered by the European Commission to allow app developers to sell directly to consumers or face antitrust penalties under the Digital Markets Act.
Apple ( AAPL ) told Reuters the approval applied only to Epic's Sweden app store. On Saturday, Epic accused Apple ( AAPL ) of telling media outlets that Epic must still update its user interface in future versions. "Epic is disputing this," the company said.
Apple ( AAPL ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
