08:12 AM EDT, 03/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- AtkinsRealis (ATRL.TO) on Tuesday said it won a five-year contract from Translink, which runs passenger rail and bus services in Northern Ireland, to provide design and construction management for signaling and telecommunications on the operators rail network.
The company, formerly known as SNC-Lavalin Group ( SNCAF ), said the contract has a value of GBP150 million to GBP250 million and can be extended for a further three years.
Translink operates 300 miles of track and carries about 13-million passengers per year. The contract will see AtkinsRealis "renew and refurbish Translink's signalling and telecommunications infrastructure, including lineside signalling assets, level crossings, and control and interlocking systems".
"Robust signalling and telecommunication systems are important foundations of any rail network, with modern systems underpinning the ability of rail to provide sustainable connectivity. This appointment is recognition of our significant expertise in delivering major re-signalling programs and our ability to deploy digital solutions to improve resilience and reliability," chief executive Ian Edwards said in a release.
The company's shares closed down C$0.34 to C$56.18 Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
