Enanta Pharmaceuticals Sues Pfizer Over COVID-19 Drug Patent in EU
Aug 20, 2025 5:23 AM

07:56 AM EDT, 08/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Enanta Pharmaceuticals ( ENTA ) said Wednesday that it has filed a lawsuit in the Unified Patent Court of the European Union against Pfizer ( PFE ) and certain of its units over alleged patent infringement.

Enanta said it asked the court to determine liability for infringement of its European patent covering coronavirus protease inhibitors in the manufacture, use, and sale of Pfizer's ( PFE ) COVID-19 antiviral Paxlovid tablet.

The company said the patent is the European counterpart of a US patent that is also the subject of litigation against Pfizer ( PFE ) in the US.

A UPC hearing is expected within 12 months, with a decision to follow weeks later, though damages would be addressed in subsequent proceedings and remain subject to appeal, Enanta added.

Pfizer ( PFE ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
