07:20 AM EST, 02/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- NextDecade ( NEXT ) said Friday it plans to expand capacity at the Rio Grande liquefied natural gas facility site in Texas beyond trains 1 through 5.

The company is developing and preparing to begin the permitting process for train 6 and commencing the development of trains 7 and 8, Chief Executive Matt Schatzman said.

The project's phase 1 includes three liquefaction trains with a total nameplate capacity of about 18 million tons per annum of LNG output, the company said.

Shares of NextDecade ( NEXT ) were up 3.9% in recent premarket activity.
